INVITATION for RETREATS
STEP Resource Centre, Thettu, Rishi Valley (po),Madanapalle
The hills, rocks and trees, in meditation, stand still. A little food when you are hungry, a mat to sleep on, a blanket in cold, a shelter – these needs are satisfied here in the valleys of Rishi Konda, Horsley hills.
People burn with the fire of attention within. This is the right place for those for whom living in deep attention is everything, a divine place it is…
The hills, rocks and the shades of the trees envelop you in meditation. The water in the running streams and bore wells satisfy your thirst.
Some 20 to 30 friends from near and far come here, spend 5 to 10 days in silence and meditation, fill their hearts and minds with the energy that comes from a silent and blank state of mind and go back to their lives.
The call of the crow from far is received by the owl, kingfisher and so many more of the birds which send back replies.
If you can see with a blank, silent mind, your eyes see sculptures in the ancient rocks and you see pictures in the clouds. You see the shadows of bunches of tamarind fruit swinging in the shade of a tamarind tree. Those who need jiggery, tamarind and honey find them here. Our natural and healthy food is got from these.
STEP RESEARCH CENTRE invites all people with love to this place where it is cold in winter and it is beautifully pleasant the whole of the year. The dialogue and attention here comes from a deep enlightened state.
All the deep issues of life are addressed here through dialogue and meditation. An enlightenment springs forth from deep attention. One experiences a state of deep independence, liberation and freedom where there is no authority or domination. Some desire to spend longer periods of time here. This experience has an impact on one’s life and also on one’s field of activity. The flame of attention stays with us.
Due to the retreat, Students find that their inner talents flower here and come into their conscious experience. Without any stress, effortlessly, naturally, they are able to face all the problems and challenges of life successfully and fill their beings with the energy that comes from a blank, unfettered state.
Due to meditation and attention, even older people flower and grow within into an enlightened state. Men, women and all living beings learn to live in peace through deep relationship with nature and with each other. Retreats are conducted in many places in closeness with nature.
One experiences a large heartedness here that includes an enlightened state of mind, a self knowledge , a clarity about how to live one’s life, a love towards all living beings
In the workshops and camps here, one experiences a burst of new energy, boundless love, friendliness, innocence, egolessness. These end all the problems and struggles in one’s life. One learns the secret of living in the moment without any worries or tensions. Researching education in Rishi Valley or agriculture in CTM surely bring out an international awareness and inner insight. Those who like can build their own communes here.

Mr.Sivaram is presently considered to be one of the most well known educationist s and a philosopher. He was a voracious reader. As a young man he was introduced to different philosophical thoughts. Nothing really impressed him until he bumped into J.Krishnamurthi’s book. In his first reading he was convinced and so sought to work in Rishi Valley to work and study the teachings. He was asked to work in the archives at Rishi Valley. He worked there for nine years in the ‘70s. While he was there he got interested in doing something for the rural children. So he started a school for the village children which later became known as Rural Education Center at Rishi Valley. He worked day and night to establish the school. He mingled with the local villagers, with the help of Potter Narayan, in all the villages around Rishi Valley. Then later he felt he should leave Rishi Valley to spread K’s teachings to the common people in the local language, Thelugu, which he was very good at. He told K about it and K told him to go ahead.
A former student of Rishi Valley Mr.Devakumar along with Mr. Sivaram set up a school for the poor in a village near Nellore, AP. The school was known as Srujana . An English lady, Elinor Watts joined him to be an active member in the project. The school became popular and well known. Then in 1990 Mr.Sivaram wound up the school and went around interacting with people and initiating the teachings. He travelled all around Andhra Pradesh interacting with students, teachers, educators and parents. The concept of STEP evolved and it was floated all over the state. Many people got interested in STEP and took Mr.Sivaram to several places introducing him to institutions and local intellectuals and educationists. STEP began to conduct discussions, dialogues, workshops, trainings, seminars, and other creative activities for students, teachers, educators and parents to bring about the desired change in them to begin thinking about new and modern approaches in education. STEP has been working with institutions for the past 20 years. Over 100 schools have benefitted from STEP involvement. Many people interested in Krishnamurthi, experienced people, intellectuals, etc. volunteered to take part in STEP activities.
Mr.Sivaram conducts dialogue with great intensity and depth. He is deadly serious about J.K’s teachings. He is now 74 years of age, very active, creative and sometimes very persuasive.
He is known as outspoken, rebellious and too serious about K’s teachings, in the Krishnamurthi foundation and in Rishi Valley. People try to avoid him because he openly criticizes.
He is a bachelor and so is very free man and chooses to be staying in places where some serious work is going on in education and in places where his presence is desired.
He has initiated and started many Krishnamurthi study centers in Andhra Pradesh. He has also conducted many retreats for interested people in Krishnamurthi’s teachings.
His interactions with students, teachers, parents and friends have been recorded and brought out as books. They are all in Telugu. One book has been translated to English. Please find this book in the attachment.
